Hainan Vocational University of Science and Technology/海南科技职业大学
Hainan Vocational University of Science and Technology is located in Haikou City, Hainan Province. It was established in 2006 based on the former Haikou campus of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and officially became Hainan Vocational University of Science and Technology (higher vocational college) in 2008. In 2018, it was approved to be upgraded as one of the first batch of pilot reform universities for undergraduate-level vocational education in the country and the only one in Hainan Province. In 2019, it was renamed Hainan Vocational University of Science and Technology.
The university adheres to the direction of socialist education, comprehensively implements the Party’s educational policies, and is committed to cultivating talents for the Party and the nation. Its fundamental mission is “to cultivate virtue and nurture people,” following the school motto of “Science, Pragmatism, Great Virtue, and Innovation,” and the educational philosophy of “Strengthening the University with Talents, Establishing Quality through Excellence, and Promoting Development through Characteristics.” It serves national strategies, the construction of Hainan Free Trade Port, Hainan's "4+3+3" modern industrial system, and the needs of key industries and vocational fields. The university emphasizes "comprehensive education," "the integration of morality and skills," and "the parallel development of five educations," aiming to nurture highly skilled professionals with solid theoretical knowledge and practical skills, a strong spirit of innovation, and overall development in morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor.
The university currently has two campuses: Meilan and Yunlong, with a total of 29,234 full-time students, including 15,318 undergraduates. The campus covers an area of over 3,000 acres, with a total building area of 976,100 square meters. The total value of teaching and research instruments and equipment is 327 million Yuan, and the library holds over 2.56 million printed books and 1.85 million electronic books. The university comprises 18 colleges (teaching departments), offering 27 undergraduate programs and 48 specialized programs across 10 major categories, including equipment manufacturing, transportation, civil engineering, biochemistry, food and drug safety, electronics and information, health, art and culture, education and sports, and business and finance. Among these, the undergraduate program in Navigation Technology fills a gap in professional undergraduate education related to navigation in Hainan. The university currently has two high-level professional clusters recognized by Hainan Province, two distinct professional clusters featuring industry-education integration, two nationally key programs, and two provincial-level specialty programs. Disciplines such as Computer Science and Technology, Mechanical Engineering, and Transportation Engineering were selected for the Hainan Province's fifth round of provincial-level key specialty discipline construction projects in 2021. In 2022, programs in Electronics and Information, Materials and Chemistry, and Mechanical and Transportation Engineering were approved as professional master's programs by Hainan Province.
